Main Street Church members have been volunteering at the Saturday Meal Program, a part of the Pettengill House Program for many years.
The Pettengill House, Inc. is an award-winning non-profit social service agency for the local community. In collaboration with our community partners, we have extensive experience in providing "wrap-around" services to support at-risk individuals, children and families through education, intervention and a therapeutic system of care.
The Pettengill House, Inc. was founded in 1994 by a diverse group of local residents and agency representatives to specifically address the needs of the most at-risk, underserved children and families. The original goals were primarily prevention related. However, it immediately became clear that the organization's clientele were primarily concerned with survival issues of food, clothing, shelter, health and safety.
Pettengill believes that individual and family stabilization is best achieved by identifying the level of need both individually and as a family unit and addressing said needs "one step at a time". Our primary concerns are the most basic human needs of food, clothing, shelter, health and safety.
2017 PETTENGILL MENU SCHEDULE
The Pettengill Saturday Night Meals program will start on September 17th serving American Chop Suey, an easy casserole to begin with. Casseroles and/or donations of milk are brought to the East Parish United Methodist Church in Salisbury (behind the CVS in the square) between 12:00 and 2:00. Helpers who come to help with the prep arrive at 2:00. People who like to deliver meals to families' homes arrive about 3:15.
On average, 300 men, women, and children are delivered a hot meal once a month from September to June. We need about 50 casseroles to accomplish this. Also, a gallon of milk goes with each delivery to a family with children (2 gallons when there are 3 or more children) which means we need about 80 gallons of milk donated. Main Street Church works in tandem with Central Congregational Church and other contributors. Many hands make light work, so we hope you can help.
