What to Expect

We recognize that it can be hard to visit a church for the first time but we hope that you feel warmly welcomed and comfortable here as you enter through the big green door! Main Street Church is a spiritual home to people from all walks and stations of life, believers and questioners, people from a range of backgrounds and faith perspectives, who come together to worship God, and serve God.

We have highlighted some key information in this section, but the best way to get to know us is to talk with the people here. Don’t hesitate to strike up a conversation with one of our pastors, deacons, greeters, or the people in your pew, and learn more about our life of worship, fellowship, and service together.

How do I get there? Where do I park?
Main Street Church is located at 145 Main Street in downtown Amesbury. It is beside the Public Library and has parking in the rear of the property. Visit Directions & Parking for more details.

What happens during church?
As you enter the church, a friendly greeter will give you a bulletin that will guide you through the service. All of our services feature reading, preaching, prayer, and music. At times, you will be invited to stand, sing, pray, greet your neighbor, be in silence, or read responsively. Communion is offered at Main Street Church on the 1st Sunday of every month. Our communion table is open to everyone—baptized or not, confessed or not, sure or not, saint or sinner or a little of both.

At all of our services we maintain the ancient Christian practice of receiving an offering to support the church’s ministries. We welcome your gifts and encourage everyone to live a life marked by generosity. If you are unable to give financially, please consider an offering of time or talent to the church, another organization, or a neighbor in need.

Worship services are recorded for Cable News Channel 12 viewing each week on Wednesday’s at 11 a.m. and Thursday’s at 2:30 p.m.

Do you offer childcare or Sunday School?
Children and families of all sorts are welcome at Main Street Church. Infants through age 3 are welcome in our childcare nursery beginning at 10 am. Every Sunday except Communion Sunday (when children remain for the whole service) children age 4 and older leave for Sunday School following “Children’s Time” with the Pastor during the first 15 minutes of the service. All nursery and Sunday school staff undergo a CORI here at Main Street Church.

What should I wear?
Some people come dressed in their Sunday best. Others dress more casually. Either way, we believe that God cares more about the state of our hearts than the state of our attire, and encourage you to dress the way that feels most appropriate to you.

How long do services last?
Worship lasts about an hour.

Is there a coffee hour or fellowship time after church?
After each worship service, the vestry is open for a time of fellowship and refreshment. The vestry can be accessed by going outside turning right and using the back entrance by the kitchen or by following the crowd through the swinging door at the front of the church and to the left of the choir. The vestry is located past the bathrooms through the kitchen. All are welcome for a snack or beverage, strike up a conversation, and make some new friends!

Is the church handicap accessible?
Yes. The outside ramp for handicap access is located at the rear of the sanctuary which abuts the parking lot. If you need assistance, please don’t hesitate to speak with a deacon.

How can I get more information?
Please feel free to chat with one of our pastor after church. You can also email office@main-street-church.org and we’ll make sure your question gets to the right person.
